In and around Lake Walchsee, holidaymakers have a wide variety of adventure activities to choose from. Whether climbing (rock climbing or high-ropes courses), rafting, canyoning, kayaking, float trips, paragliding (tandem flights), hang-gliding - awaiting you here is pure adventure. And if you prefer a more laid-back experience, how about reserving a balloon ride over the imposing Tyrolean Kaisergebirge mountains.
Kaiserwinkl Climbing Arena at the Otternalm/Walchsee
The Walchsee Mountaineering Society founded the Climbing Arena at the Ottenalm in 2011. One climbing area, great rock, three via ferrata climbs. The 3 routes range from 70 to 300 meters in length - and are rated B+, D and D/E. The "Bergkameraden" climb demands good levels of fitness. The "Ottenalm-Direttissima", the toughest of the three climbs, takes you up a vertical rock face. All three climbs are secured with steel cables from bottom-to-top, while you will also encounter two suspension footbridges, from one of which climbers enjoy open views out across the "Schwemm", an area of high moors. Please note: Once you have begun the via ferrata, there are no exit points until you reach the top of the climb.
Kaiserwinkl Climbing Arena offers the following three via ferrata climbs:
Walchsee Tour
"Bergkameraden Steig"
"Ottenalm Direttissima"
Bellevue Tip:
Climbing gear can be rented out at the Ottenalm (as long as supplies last) or at Adventure Club Kaiserwinkl in Kössen.
Climbing Fun on the High-Ropes Course
The High-Ropes Center in Kössen is a practice and obstacle course, featuring steel cables strung around 10 meters above the ground. Climbers are equipped with a helmet, safety harness and safety ropes. The high-ropes center, incidentally, has been safety certified. One absolute highlight of the high-ropes course is the Flying Fox (ca. 100 meter-long zipline), as is the ca. 100 m-long Nepalese Bridge, taking you back over the Tiroler Ache around 20 meters above the water.
Outdoor activities for an exciting new perspective: adventure rafting – action rafting or Rafting & Canyoning. Incidentally, these tours are all offered by Adventure Club Kaiserwinkl in Kössen.
Rafting on the Tiroler Ache is a great group, nature-friendly activity. In fact, during these tours particular attention is given to being gentle on the environment. The personal challenge and the feeling of being part of this glorious natural setting are certain to make this rafting adventure an absolutely unforgettable experience.
During Action Rafting , participants make their way through a "Grand Canyon" on the Austrian-German border, with tight S-bends, rapids and eddies. All participants in Action Rafting need to be good swimmers.
In addition, they also offer a great "Rafting & Canyoning" combination, with stages sure to get your adrenaline pumping: includes rappelling, diving and sliding down rocks.
More information about rafting & canyoning can be obtained from Adventure Club Kaiserwinkl.
Simply rent a boat and set out into nature. Take all the time in the world as you float down the Tiroler Ache on a mini raft (from Kirchdorf to Marquartstein). Of course, before setting out you will receive expert safety instruction (incl. rafting techniques, eco-friendly behavior etc.).
The Kaiserwinkl – and especially the town of Kössen - is truly a paradise for paragliders and hang-gliders. Every year, thousands of paragliders come to the Kaiserwinkl to enjoy the ideal conditions here for this unique form of aviation. With the help of the Hochkössen gondola, paragliders make their way quickly and comfortably to the top of the Unterberg, where they find an superb take-off location. If you wish to book a tandem flight, please contact the Bellevue reception, our local tourist offices or get in touch with the Kössen Flight School direct.
Every year, the so-called Testival is held. A get-together for thousands of hang- and paragliders.
Ballooning in Kaiserwinkl
Be a part of the excitement, rather than just standing on the sidelines. The Montgolfiere brothers were the first ballooners to write history. True to the ballooning tradition, participants are actively involved in setting up the gigantic hot-air balloons. Ready for take-off? If so, clamber on board, fire it up and float away into the skies.
Experience the fascination of this sport first-hand and treat yourself to some truly amazing perspectives. Once you have landed, you will first stow away the balloon again, before celebrating the traditional "Ballooner's Christening" - and receive a personal certificate.
If you wish to reserve a balloon ride, please contact Ballooning Tyrol direct!
Towards the end of January, the biggest balloon rally in Central Europe takes place in Kaiserwinkl: Alpin-Ballooning. One of the rally's highlights is the "Night of Balloons" with a big fireworks show. An extraordinary event indeed!
Lake Walchsee is one of the few places in Tyrol where you can, and are permitted to go water skiing. A magical setting and warm water temperatures make this a magical place to enjoy your favorite sport.
